A bit of history

One of the many duties of a seigneur was to build a flour Mill for the needs of his people. The Vieux Moulin was built around the year 1830 by Mrs. Charlotte Bingham, daughter of the honorable Chartier- de- Lotbiniere. Back then, life for the villagers centered at the flour Mill, saw mill and wool carding mill. In 1897 M. De Lery MacDonald purchased the mill from the Bingham inheritors and brought major modernizations to its machinery. Arthur Mercier aquired the mill in 1908 and made major modifications to its dam that still regulates the river flow today. After the 1920's numerous owners tried in vain to revive a dying institution being surpassed by modern technological developments. In 1981, despite the regrettable state of the "Vieux Moulin" as referred to by the local Rigaudins, a major renovation was undertaken by Mr. Gilles Ringuette to revive this grand site. Today the "Vieux Moulin" proudly stands as a monument to a rich part of our history.

Welcome!
